The Story Behind Uncle Bear

Every great fishing trip starts with a story—and Uncle Bear’s begins in the backwaters of Clearwater. The nickname Uncle Bear came from a young niece who said her fun-loving, bearded uncle looked like a friendly bear.
The name stuck, and before long, it was how friends, family, and eventually guests knew him.

When it came time to name the charter, there was no debate. The boat is a sleek inshore machine powered by a Yamaha SHO 250, built for chasing fish and chasing sunsets. It’s fully outfitted with Fitzgerald rods, Florida Fishing Products reels, and a 50W setup for sharks and goliath grouper.
Four guests can fish comfortably, or six can join for a sunset cruise along the coast.

Fishing has always been more than a hobby—it’s been a way of life.Uncle Bear grew up on these waters, throwing cast nets before school and scrubbing boats after dinner. He knows every tide, every hidden honey hole, and every bend where the big ones hide.

Today, Uncle Bear’s Inshore Fishing Charter shares that love of the water with guests from all walks of life. We chase redfish, snook, trout, snapper, and mackerel using live bait like greenbacks, pinfish, threadfins, and shrimp. Trips are always personalized—whether you want to fish hard or just cruise into a Clearwater sunset. Onboard, you’ll find top gear, local knowledge, and a few tall fishing tales too. Because when you’re with Uncle Bear, you’re not just fishing—you’re family.
